Colors and Expressions
Colors and Expressions PDF

Colors are an integral part of human expressions. The very choice you make of colors for your house, bedroom, kitchen, office or factory defines your expressive nature towards your perception of the world around you.

The colors around you influence your feelings and sensations. Here we look at some of the expressions associated to some basic colors
Red considered being a hot color is used to express heat, chili and anger. The small hot tasting peppers found in many Mexican foods are called red hots for their color and their fiery taste. Fast loud music is popular with many people and expressed as red hot.
Pink is a lighter kind of red. People say they are in the pink when they are in good health. The expression was first used in America at the beginning of the twentieth century.  It probably comes from the fact that many babies are born with a nice pink color that shows that they are in good health.
Green color is natural for trees and grass. But it is an unnatural color for humans. A person who has a sick feeling stomach may say he/she feels a little green.  A passenger on a boat who is feeling very sick from high waves may look very green. At the same time, in the corporate world green is considered to be an expression for being globally conscious or eco-friendly.
Black is also often used in expressions. People describe a day in which everything goes wrong as a black day. The date of a major tragedy is remembered as a black day or a day of mourning as well.  A blacklist is used by many organizations and authorities as a list of illegal/banned entities. The color of the universe is also termed to be black, which expresses that the vast unlimited distances and unexplored horizons are unknown and since you cannot illustrate what is there, therefore unseen to be black.
